Thank you, but the Hungarian version is unique; could you atleast translate from 1.42 to 1.47 ? :3 It's only one sentence |
Answer: | 1.42 to 1.47 | #735190 |
"És mikor azt kérded: Hé ki van ott? Én leszek ott, csak én vagyok ott. Én vagyok árnyék a síron túl, Megrémül s a hajadba túr." ----- And when you ask: 'Hey, who is there?' I'll be there, I am only there. I am a shadow beyond the grave. Struck with horror and ruffle through your hair. ---- PS: In the last sentence I couldn't quite find out who is talking and referring to who, but I hope this approximation is enough for you. |

Ok this one is pretty hard to translate, but something close would be. You go guys, do (it) well! Go for it guys, do well! etc. I hope you get the meaning. |
Answer: | #724490 | |
Sadly I don't understand what she talks about, but thanks a lot to take the time to answer. Does "na akk" means "nem ak"? |
Answer: | #724495 | |
akk = akkor na is a fillerword with many meaning, similar to "well, let('s), so" etc etc in English |
Answer: | #724604 | |
Ok, thanks a lot. I have a friend who starts a company and wants to translate the description of it in English. Szervezetünk Külföldi cégek alapításával, és a megalapított cégek segítésével foglalkozik, ha céget szeretne Angliában, vagy Németországban, mi olcsón és gyorsan segítségére lehetünk, anélkül hogy kiutazna. What could be the best translation ? I promise that's the last question :) Thanks again |
Answer: | #724708 | |
""" Our organisation deals with with the foundation of foreign companies and helps established companies. If you want (to found/launch) [***in HU it literally only says "if you would like to have a a company", in EN another verb would probably sound better***] a company in GB or D, we can offer you cheap and fast help, without the need of traveling. [as in his customers don't need to go abroad to make the deal / founding the company] """ The English is just 1:1 translation on the spot before I hit the sack. With some effort you can probably phrase it better :) |

there are two terms in Hungarian: jogállam and also demokratikus jogállam. Could anyone tell me, what's the initial meaning of this word - jogállam, precisely is it british "Rule of Law" or german "Rechtstaat"? Can I translate the first term as the Rule of Law and the second as "democratic constitutional State"? |
Answer: | #723532 | |
Yes you got it right. jogállam = Rechtsstaat / state of law demokratikus = democratic see also here dict.cc: Rechtsstaat Which one you choose, depends on the context. |

I don't know for what exactly you need this but I recommend a professional translation if it's even close to important. Legal texts are hard to translate without knowing the appr. terms in the other language. Most Hungarian laws are translated by the EU or by lawyers. You can probably google it. |
Term: | military ranks in UK and US | » answer |
I noticed we have a little problem with the military ranks in the United Staates and in the United Kingdom. For example: a sergeant in US has not the same military rank as a sergeant in UK. I try to correct the inputs with the help of Wikipedia, but I'm not a specialist for military ranks. So I suggest to use the NATO-Codes to specify the Inputs..... Any comments? |
Answer: | #722826 | |
I try to avoid to vote on anything like that because Nato vs US vs UK vs any other army/country is just confusing. The translations we had HU->X were "common" ranks that are about the same or have the same a linguistic origin. I wouldn't add more or go into more detail there, but then again if you have to time to figure it all out and the disamb. is correct, why not. |
Answer: | #722879 | |
It's only the ranks of army and ir force because Hungary hasn't any navy forces. Of course there are common translations of naval ranks, so I will only add the NATO-Code on the english side (with the help of Wikipedia). I don't correct any common rank translations of other rank systems (e.g. police...), so I concentrate only of army and air force ranks. |

Answer: | #716649 | |
Well, here are the words I cannot understand: Boruját széleszd vidorabb meglankadt Vidulás Thanks |
Answer: | Ok Ill look into it word by word, will take a abit. Ill update this post once I found more. | #716657 |
(meg)lankad http://www.szotar.net/keres/mind/lankad ---------------- szélesz to disperse to scatter ----------------- vidul (as verb, vidulás -> noun) to cheer up to brighten up to make merry ----------------------- vidor cheerful ------------------------ bojurat This one I didn't find but I'd translate it with drabness (of life), greyness, cloudiness, cheerlessness etc in a fig. meaning So the "Boruját meg széleszd: Légy te vidorabb." would mean "Scatter / Disperse the greyness and be more cheerful" |

Term: | Sunday 8:10 -> 30k entries and the end of the beta | » answer |
I want to thank everybody for making this possible. We are not just the first EN-pair leaving the beta phase, we have also achieved a very nice status for the HU-pairs in general. We have in summary more than 75k Hungarian entries and we grow every week by ~200-300 words. If you recently checked the access stats, we also grow in popularity. (enhu.dict.cc: about:stats) More and more people check dict.cc for HU/DE/EN translations and I hope this gives each and everybody motivation and strength to keep this project going. As for the future I hope we gain more contributors for a more fluent verification process. I also hope we can spread the word about dict.cc and show the people the alternative to the sometimes faulty other dictionaries/vocab scanners without any explanations/disambiguations. As for my part, I managed to link DE/HU into 3 language groups on Facebook and recruit some casual contributors. I hope everybody is trying the same, so we can look ahead to establish a nice team working on this awesome project. Keep the good work up. I wish you all the best and see you around :) |

I also wanted to express my deep gratitude for Loranta and Ozntia. They won't comment here, but I want their names to be recognized. Without Ozntia's Votes and helpful comments we would often sit at the 1k cache limit for weeks. Without Loranta I wouldn't even know if I'd still be here. A very intelligent and kind person, awesome to e-mail with, always helping and she has the most outstanding accuracy when it comes to sources. She always finds sources for even the hardest of our entries and her inputs are just as equally backed up with reliable sources. Afterall VOTES is what we need the most and having a team like you guys, that works with such precision is a blessing. That being said, I don't wanna steal your time anymore. There are many entries waiting for us. |
